Last month I went on a very exciting adventure to Victoria, Australia. As a nature-lover and forest seeker, I was ecstatic about the idea of experiencing new species of trees, plants and wildlife. I spent most of the trip in the Dandenong Ranges, which is in the mountains, about an hour outside of Melbourne. The ranges were covered with giant eucalyptus, stunning fern trees and all sorts of birds that I had only seen in photographs. The forest was breath-taking and just as inspirational as I had thought. On one of my exploring days in the ranges, I came upon something that I would have never expected in a million years…
In the middle of this eucalyptus jungle was a very neatly planted redwood grove. California redwoods planted in the middle of the mountains in Australia. I couldn’t believe it!
Camera in hand, I began to explore. I brought my latest AETAS collection with me on the trip and had just grabbed a few pieces to try to photograph somewhere in the forest that day. I realized when I pulled it out of my bag that I had brought the Roseus (redwood) set with me. That’s when it hit me.
When I moved to Northern California over two years ago, I had never seen a redwood tree and I was so moved by them that I created a group of jewelry from a redwood twig. This had become my favorite collection because of what it meant to me. Now I am on a new adventure, on the opposite side of the earth, carrying my inspiration and magically finding a place that feels like home. It was then that I realized that I am always carrying my inspirations in my life, it’s just awesome to have physical reminders to take with me.
